Brazilian luxury eyewear brand Lapima has unveiled Boards, a new collection that reinterprets the design language of surfboards and skateboards through sculptural, handcrafted eyewear. The launch reinforces the brand’s position at the intersection of contemporary luxury, artisanal craftsmanship, and culturally rooted design.

With Boards, LAPIMA transforms objects traditionally shaped for speed, balance, and movement into expressive eyewear forms. The collection explores sensorial motion and materiality, translating the performance-driven aesthetics of board culture into frames that are both architectural and wearable.
Creative director Gustavo Assis, a surfer since the late 1980s, draws directly from his personal history. “Boards is an ode to design to form, function, and beauty,” Assis says. “It brings together creative elements that are part of my personal journey and that I have long wanted to translate into the LAPIMA universe.”

Sculptural Forms Inspired by Motion
The collection includes Stephanie and Coco, two ultra-feminine cat-eye styles inspired by fish surfboards and their iconic swallowtail shapes. Penny, influenced by skateboard design, is the smallest frame ever produced by the brand, offering a compact, lightweight silhouette with a refined, high-fashion sensibility.
Andy, a limited-edition model, references 1990s speed eyewear. Sculpted entirely in acetate, it features aerodynamic lines that evoke movement and performance while remaining firmly rooted in luxury craftsmanship.
In the optical category, Margot stands out with temple details inspired by board tails, scaled into subtle spike-like forms that add a refined rock edge. Bia introduces gem-like faceted surfaces designed to reflect light with precision, reinforcing the collection’s focus on surface, volume, and tactility.

Materiality, Process, and Color
True to LAPIMA’s DNA, Boards places strong emphasis on material research and artisanal execution. The color palette includes natural-finish black and white, intentionally developed to reveal machining marks and production processes. Additional tones include Garoa Grey, inspired by skateboard grip tape, and Purple, a soft violet referencing the neon hues of 1980s boards.
Each frame is handcrafted in the brand’s in-house atelier in Campinas, São Paulo, balancing high-level finishing with an honest expression of process and form.

Global Launch and Availability
The Boards collection launched internationally in late January during MIDO in Milan and will be available from March through LAPIMA’s concept store, online boutique, and a curated selection of retailers worldwide.
Lapima is widely regarded as one of the most influential design studios in contemporary eyewear. In recent seasons, its frames have been visibly echoed by major fashion houses such as Bottega Veneta, following similar adaptations by Max Mara the year prior.
Beyond the luxury fashion space, Lapima’s design language has also shaped parts of the independent eyewear segment, influencing brands such as Aude Herouard.
With the Boards collection, Lapima once again sets new boundaries for the industry, clearly defining direction rather than following it.
